It’s the time of year when meteorologists queasily peer at forecast models around Halloween.
Halloween is scary for many reasons. But on the weather maps, it marks the onset of seasonal changes in weather patterns. If enough cold air catches an inbound storm just right, scary things can happen.
Yeah. Like that year.
Fortunately, the weather pattern this year is looking docile around Halloween. I don’t see any big scary Halloween megastorms on the maps this year. In fact, forecast models currently suggest it could be a near-perfect Halloween night next Thursday.

Halloween week starts balmy with highs in the 70s Monday and Tuesday across the south.
A weather system brings rain (and possibly some snow chances north) late Tuesday into Wednesday.
It’s too early to pinpoint coverage and totals but on the map below is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s early Global Forecast System idea. The forecast model loop below runs between 1 p.m. Tuesday and 7 p.m. Wednesday.
That system should blow out of Minnesota by Halloween. Forecast models suggest clearing skies on Thursday.
Highs Thursday are likely to hover around 50 degrees in the Twin Cities and the south with 40s north.
So clear skies, light winds, and cool temperatures in the upper 40s should make for a nearly ideal Halloween night in 2024.
Stay tuned.
