After some lovely and needed rain, sunshine returns for Friday as cooler high pressure sets in. It will be a frosty Friday night and cooler weekend before temperatures warm back into the 70s by Monday.

Cooler couple days; warmth, more rain possible next week

It sure felt nice to hear and see some rain Thursday evening. Hopefully it’s a sign of more to come.

Much of east-central Minnesota up to the North Shore saw between 0.30 and 0.65 of an inch of rainfall. In the Twin Cities it was our biggest rainfall since late August and the first measurable one since Sept. 19.

The 0.48 of an inch received at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport was about a tenth of our rainfall deficit — about 5 inches since Sept. 1.

Friday will be cooler again as high pressure settles in from Canada, bringing back sunshine and near-normal temperatures mostly in the 50s.

The cooler air and clear skies will set us up for a frosty Friday night. Temperatures will dip into the 20s in northern Minnesota with low to mid-30s south.

Saturday will again be on the cooler (but normal) side with highs in the 50s. Sunday will already be warmer with 60s returning to central and southern Minnesota.

We’re set for highs back in the 70s Monday and Tuesday across southern Minnesota with some models pushing us toward 80 degrees Tuesday. If we do that, it’ll be the second latest 80-degree reading in Twin Cities recorded history.

There are also hopeful signs of two systems mid to late next week bringing additional rainfall. The first of these systems comes Tuesday night into Wednesday.

An additional rainfall of up to one-half inch could be possible again with that system. Another system moves in for next weekend (Nov. 2).
