Winter weather advisories have been issued for Halloween with 2 to 4 inches of slushy accumulation expected alongside gusty north-northeast winds. Cooler temperatures are anticipated for trick-or-treating.

Our first snowfall of the season is upon us with winter weather advisories issued including the Twin Cities. A line of heavy snow is expected north of the Mankato area through most of the Twin Cities metro area into northwest Wisconsin.

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM THIS MORNING TO 4 PM CDT THIS AFTERNOON... * WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 4 inches. Locally higher totals are possible from the northern and western Twin Cities metro area to Polk County in Wisconsin.

Rain will transition to snow early with a band of 2 to 4 inches expected. Snowfall rates may reach over 1 inch per hour at times and there’s even a possibility of thundersnow due to sufficient instability.

Winds will be out of the north-northeast, ushering in colder temperatures and helping with the transition from rain to snow.

The heavy, wet snow could impact travel with limited visibility due to falling snow and breezy winds.

It wouldn’t be a classic Minnesota Halloween without bundling up in layers under our costumes. Fortunately, the precipitation should wrap up before trick-or-treating begins and breezy winds will ease by early evening. Expect temperatures in the upper 30s around 5 p.m. with a slight wind chill for those out seeking candy.
