Sunday evening into early Monday will bring clear skies and calm conditions. However, our next weather system will arrive late Monday afternoon, bringing increased cloud cover and rain showers. Cooler temperatures will follow, setting the stage for our next chance for light snow Tuesday night.
Calm before the storm
Clear skies are expected Sunday night, with temperatures dropping into the upper 30s for the metro. The northern parts of the state will see temperatures in the upper 20s, along with some lingering cloud cover. Our blustery winds from the weekend will finally diminish Sunday evening to 5-10 mph.
Monday will start sunny, but cloud cover quickly fills in by the afternoon hours.

Temperatures will still be on the warm side for this time of the year in the lower to mid 50s, with upper 40s to low 50s across the state.
Rain and lots of it
A strong low-pressure system moving north from Arizona and Texas will bring significant rainfall, heavy at times, to the region. Rain showers are expected to reach southern Minnesota by Monday afternoon, spreading across a larger area by nightfall. Total rainfall could exceed one to one and a half inches in some areas.
Rain showers will persist into Tuesday before dry air begins to infiltrate the system, temporarily ending the precipitation. The low-pressure system is expected to stall over southern Manitoba and northern Minnesota, while northwest winds bring in cooler Canadian air.
As the system begins to exit stage right towards the Great Lakes, the cooler air will change rain showers into light snow. Snow accumulations are possible, especially near the surface low and where the strongest forcing occurs. Western Minnesota could see a few inches of snow before the system moves out of the region.
Temperatures will cool significantly from Wednesday through Friday, with highs dipping below average into the mid to upper 30s. However, sunshine is expected to make a return by Friday, bringing a welcome break from the cloudy, wet conditions.
