Here it comes, Minnesota.

Wednesday, Nov. 20 might be the day we can say it felt like real winter for the first time this season.

A tightly wound low-pressure system will spin southward through the Red River Valley on Wednesday. It’s cold enough to produce snow. The heaviest snow will fall across the Red River Valley into northwestern Minnesota, but some occasionally vigorous snow showers will sail through the Twin Cities on Wednesday.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s NAM 3 km model shows the system spinning southward with steadier snow in the northwest and snow showers in the Twin Cities and south.

The forecast model loop below runs between midnight Wednesday and midnight Thursday.

Snowfall accumulations will be heaviest in the northwest. Anywhere from 2 to 6 inches of wind-driven snow will fall in those areas. The Twin Cities is likely to pick up a coating, mainly on grassy areas.

The pavement is still warm but temperatures will be near freezing, so slick spots could develop especially Wednesday night.
