After a cold weekend, warmer temperatures will begin to return across the state. Highs are expected to approach or exceed freezing by Tuesday and Wednesday, but another wave of cool air will arrive to close out the week.
The persistent Arctic air kept high temperatures 10-15 degrees below average throughout the weekend, with wind chill values plunging into the sub-zero range. Sunday night, temperatures will dip into the lower to mid-teens in eastern Minnesota, while western Minnesota will experience single-digit lows.
Western Minnesota may experience light snow from Sunday night into early Monday, with minimal accumulation of one to two inches expected. This system will track southeast, bringing a trace to possibly a quarter of an inch of snow to the Twin Cities by Monday morning's commute.

Overall, it will be an active work week with multiple chances for light snow. The strongest of the three systems is expected to move through Tuesday into Wednesday, but forecast models have shifted it further to the northeast, primarily impacting the Arrowhead region.
Snowfall potential through Wednesday night indicates northern Minnesota and the Arrowhead region could receive 3-6 inches of snow, with lighter accumulations further to the southwest.
Temperatures on a rollercoaster this week
Since Nov. 25, we haven’t seen temperatures rise above freezing. Monday will begin in the mid-20s, with highs possibly warming to near or just below freezing by Tuesday and Wednesday. Wednesday's highs will drop throughout the day, with temperatures only rebounding to the upper teens on Thursday and returning to the 20s on Friday.
