Roller coaster temperatures with light snow showers this week

Cloudy skies and persistent northwest winds will persist until a shift to southerly winds ushers in warmer temperatures for Tuesday and early Wednesday. Another blast of arctic air will arrive Wednesday, causing temperatures to drop back into the teens, with a chance of light snow.

Cold, quiet Monday night

Monday night will bring mainly quiet conditions, with lows dropping into the low to mid-teens across eastern Minnesota. Western Minnesota can expect temperatures in the single digits above and below zero.

The wind direction will finally shift to the south, allowing warmer air to move in.

A push of warmer air will bring temperatures on Tuesday and early Wednesday into the upper 20s.

Light snow with another clipper system

A second clipper system will bring light snow showers to Minnesota late Tuesday into Wednesday.

Most of the snow is expected to fall north of Interstate 94, with heavier accumulations in the northeastern portions of the state. A winter storm watch has been issued for southern areas of Cook County in Minnesota’s Arrowhead.

Another blast of arctic air

Winds will become very blustery on Wednesday, with temperatures dropping into the teens and single digits as cold arctic air moves south. Northwest winds at 30 to 40 mph will create bitterly cold wind chills for Thursday morning, ranging from minus 10 to minus 20 degrees.
