Gusty northwest winds will continue overnight but will be a little lighter. Temperatures and wind chills will be frigid into Thursday before a big weekend warmup.
Winds lighter Thursday ahead of a big weekend warmup
Temperatures will continue their decline into the overnight hours tonight. Lows will be in the single digits across eastern Minnesota and subzero in western Minnesota.
Winds will continue to howl Wednesday night, although they won’t be as fierce as they were during the day. We’ve seen wind gusts as high as 52 mph in the Twin Cities and 55 mph in Rochester. Winds will be about 10 to 20 mph overnight.
Wind chill values Wednesday night and into Thursday morning will be subzero statewide with wind chills as cold as the teens below zero in western Minnesota.
Highs Thursday will be in the teens and single digits, but the winds will subside to 5 to 15 mph from the northwest.
We rebound quickly with highs back in the 20s and teens Friday.
Weekend high temperatures will be above freezing for much of the state. Southern Minnesota will likely see highs near or surpassing 40 degrees both Saturday and Sunday.
