Temps will dip once again tonight but begin to warm Friday. Highs will be in the 40s for southern Minnesota this weekend. Light snow is possible north.
Warmer air moves in for the weekend
We have one more cold night Thursday with temperatures dipping into mostly the single digits. In the Twin Cities, we’ll drop into the low teens under partly cloudy skies.
As warmer air advances into the region it will combine with a couple of upper-level disturbances to create snow showers across mostly northeastern Minnesota late Thursday night into Friday morning and again on Saturday. There could be a wintry mix of snow showers and light freezing rain with the second batch of moisture Friday night into Saturday.
Snow totals look to be relatively light, up to 1-2 inches far into the Arrowhead near Grand Portage.
Highs Friday will be mostly in the 20s, although southwestern Minnesota will see low to mid-30s already. Southern Minnesota will see more sun while northern Minnesota remains mostly cloudy.
Weekend highs will be in the 40s for southern Minnesota where we have little or no snow pack. Those readings are 10 or more degrees above normal.
A developing storm system for early next week is likely to bring snow and even some rain showers mostly to northern Minnesota. Southern Minnesota looks to be primarily south and west of the main area of moisture.
