Second blast of cold air moves through Minnesota Tuesday night

Following Monday’s cooldown, a second and more potent cold front will blow through Tuesday night, dropping temperatures and creating snow showers.
Arctic front brings snow showers, falling temps
Temperatures are already cooler Tuesday compared to the mild weekend and Monday. Highs will be mostly in the 20s with teens in the northwest under a mix of clouds and sun. This will be our warmest day until Saturday.
The second cold front of the week — an arctic front that will really drop the temperatures over the next 24 hours — will sweep across Minnesota Tuesday evening into the overnight.
Ahead of the front, scattered snow showers will move across the state starting in the afternoon for northwestern Minnesota and overnight for those of us in eastern Minnesota.

Many areas will pick up a fresh coating of snow that blustery northwest winds will blow around at 10 to 25 mph.
While most areas will receive up to an inch, some spots in northern Minnesota could pick up a little more. Plan on a potentially slick morning commute Wednesday.
Temperatures Tuesday night will dip into subzero territory in northern Minnesota to near 10 degrees in the Twin Cities and southeastern Minnesota.
Highs Wednesday will be in the teens south and remain below zero in northwestern Minnesota. Wednesday night will be the coldest night we’ve seen this season with subzero readings statewide. Northwestern Minnesota could even dip to as cold as 20 below zero.
Wind chill values will be near 30 below zero in northwestern Minnesota. Even the Twin Cities will see wind chills in the teens below zero.
The frigid arctic air will already depart Thursday night, allowing anomalous warmth to once again return to the region for the weekend into early next week from a more mild Pacific air mass.
We rebound already by the weekend with above freezing highs likely again in southern Minnesota, especially Sunday and Monday.
There’s also the chance at more snow showers Friday night into Saturday. It may be a wintry mix at times with some accumulation possible. Right now, most models keep amounts modest at perhaps another coating to an inch or two.
