A large fire engulfed a homeless encampment in Minneapolis on Tuesday night and spread to a neighboring home.

Authorities did not report any injuries, but said eight people were displaced from the home that caught fire. Fire officials did not say how many people were displaced from the encampment.

Minneapolis fire crews responded to the fire on the 2400 block of 15th Avenue South at about 10:30 p.m. Crews arrived to find several tents in the encampment fully engulfed in flames and propane tanks exploding, as well as the neighboring home that had caught fire.

In a press release, the fire department said another neighboring home was damaged by the heat of the fire melting its siding — but the flames did not spread to that home.

The fire was brought under control in about 45 minutes, the fire department said. Crews remained on the scene to extinguish hot spots.

Authorities said residents of the encampment reported that everyone had been accounted for, and residents of the adjoining homes evacuated those buildings.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
