Amanda Boshey, 38, a Bois Forte tribal citizen, was walking along Lake Vermilion Reservation Road near her home when she was struck by a vehicle and killed on Tuesday evening.

The Bois Forte Band of Chippewa said that because the crash happened on the reservation, the FBI is handling the investigation.

“At this time, there isn’t a need to request tips from the public as a person of interest has been identified,” FBI Public Affairs Specialist Diana Freedman said, in a statement shared by Bois Forte officials. “No further details are available at this stage.”

There were no updates Friday morning on whether anyone has been arrested in connection with the crash.

Boshey was a mother of five whose children “meant the world to her,” according to the statement from Bois Forte.

“Her oldest daughter was her best friend and was attached at the hip. They always did everything together. She was always active and ready to ‘go, go, go,’ with boundless energy and a zest for life,” the statement said.

Boshey worked as a laborer for a local construction company, and was a member of Local 1091 of Laborers’ International Union of North America.

The statement also said Boshey was in recovery from substance use disorder and had been active in her recovery community. She was proud of the fact that in January, she would have been sober for three years. Boshey’s obituary said she had dreams of opening a treatment center on the reservation.

A wake for Boshey will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at the Vermilion Wellness Center. Tribal funerary rites will be held Saturday morning. Her burial will follow at the Bois Forte Vermilion Cemetery.

A fund has been set up at Embarrass Vermilion Credit Union to help Boshey’s children with financial needs.
