Even colder air has settled into the region. It will keep temperatures in the teens to near zero for afternoon highs in the northwest. The weekend will also be cold.
A storm system crosses the Midwest Sunday south of Minnesota, leaving snow lovers here disappointed.
Below-normal temps into next week
Friday will be colder with highs mostly in the low to mid teens across southern Minnesota to just near zero in the northwest. We should see a fair amount of sun with partly cloudy skies. A northwest breeze at 10 to 15 mph will keep wind chills below zero in the morning.
Look for a colder overnight with lows near zero in southern Minnesota but subzero for most. In fact, northwestern Minnesota could drop into the teens below to near 20 below zero.

Weekend high temperatures will remain cold as well, mostly in the teens south to subzero northwest.
A storm system will follow the jet stream south of Minnesota Sunday, leaving snow lovers here still looking for snow. A winter storm watch is posted for many areas to our south across Kansas, Missouri, into Illinois.
Up to a foot of snow could fall just north of Kansas City to just north of St. Louis through central Illinois.
We may get some snowfall later next week with a clipper system but mostly temperatures will remain just below normal.
