Blizzard and winter storm warnings continue into midday. Snow showers will persist for southeastern Minnesota through midday followed by seasonably cool temperatures.

Spring storm winds down and departs

As much as 6 to 12 inches of snow fell in the south and east Twin Cities metro area overnight into early Wednesday. The official total at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport was 7.4 inches through 6 a.m.

With additional morning snow showers that final total will likely come in past 8 inches. That easily makes it our biggest snow of this season.

Snow showers will continue to wind down across far eastern and southeastern Minnesota through the morning hours, lingering into the afternoon in the far southeast.

Parts of southeastern Minnesota could see up to another 1 to 3 inches while the Twin Cities and Duluth will see less than 1 inch of any additional snowfall.

High winds will continue much of the day, especially in far southern Minnesota, with sustained north-northwest winds at 15 to 30 mph. Gusts will be higher at 50 mph to near 60 mph along the Minnesota and Iowa border.

It will also be a colder overnight with fresh snow and clearing skies. Temperatures will drop mostly into the teens with some single digits in northeastern Minnesota.

Sunshine is back for Thursday with highs mostly in the 30s to near 40 degrees, which is near normal. Seasonably cooler temperatures persist through Saturday before the weather warms considerably for early next week.

Highs will be back in the 50s and perhaps even 60s for southern Minnesota.
