Part of Interstate 494 will be closed Friday night through Monday morning as crews remove a bridge over the freeway.  

I-494 will be closed starting 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday in both directions between Interstate 35W and Highway 77 in Bloomington. 

Traffic will be detoured to Highway 62 — the Crosstown — which could result in traffic delays along that freeway.

The closure on I-494 is to allow crews to remove the 12th Avenue bridge, which was built in 1959 and according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation is at the end of its lifespan. 

The bridge is scheduled to be rebuilt this year, with a scheduled reopening in September. The new bridge will include wider sidewalks and easier access for pedestrians.

 along I-494 that’s set to continue through 2030.

Overnight closures are planned each night next week — starting Monday night — for a stretch of westbound I-494 in Bloomington, as crews install new lighting along the freeway.

MnDOT said the nightly closures begin at 10 p.m. each night and run through 5 a.m. the following morning in westbound lanes of I-494 between I-35W and Highway 100. Traffic will be detoured to the Crosstown.
