Flights are delayed at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport after telecommunication issues caused a ground stoppage for about an hour and a half Thursday afternoon. 

The FAA said it briefly paused flights into and out of Minneapolis Air Route Traffic Control Center’s airspace due to the telecommunications issues. 

“Services have been fully restored, and flights are returning to normal. The FAA is investigating the cause,” an FAA spokesperson told MPR News in a statement. 

The ground stoppage was in effect from about 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, airport spokesperson Jeff Lea said. 

The airport is now seeing delays due to the stoppage, Lea said. He doesn’t know when the airport will be back to normal operations. 

It's unknown whether the issue is related to other outages in the state. Early voting machines temporarily lost internet connectivity Thursday, and 

Minnesota IT Services said it is responding to a service interruption from its service provider that affected state and county systems. 

“Power is beginning to be restored as MNIT continues to investigate the issue in partnership with the vendor and restore full functionality. State agencies and partners will receive updates as information becomes available,” MNIT spokesperson Juliana Schacherer said. 

Schacherer said there is no indication the outages are a result of a cybersecurity incident.

The Minnesota Secretary of State’s office said it’s in contact with counties where the voting systems were down. They continued processing voters using backup procedures.
