You may have heard about the success of two Minnesota restaurants: Union Hmong Kitchen and Afro Deli.
Each owner started their business with a dream. They wanted to share their culture, food and unique flavors with Minnesotans. And now, they are seeing success after years of hard work.
Restaurant owners Chef Yia Vang and Abdirahman Kahin joined MPR News host Angela Davis to talk about what it takes to own and operate a restaurant. They shared stories of their success and setbacks, and described lessons they’ve learned along the way.
Guests:
Chef Yia Vang is the owner of Union Hmong Kitchen as well as Vinai — slated to open in 2024 — that feature South and Eastern Asian cuisine.
Abdirahman Kahin is the owner and CEO of Afro Deli, a fusion restaurant with four locations featuring African, Mediterranean and American food.
