Newly confirmed COVID-19 cases in Minnesota remained above 1,000 for a fourth straight day in Sunday’s update from the state health department, with another 10 deaths reported in Minnesota.
Ojibwe artist Sharon Day will unveil a new artwork outside the Minnesota Capitol on Sunday. She was inspired to create the piece in part to give elders and people with health conditions a way to make their voices heard amid the pandemic.
“This memorial represents our willingness to share the burden of pain, to act, engage and remember the reality of sexual violence,” Sarah Super said in dedicating the site at Boom Island in Minneapolis. “This memorial is a permanent public symbol that says to victim survivors we believe you, we stand with you, you are not alone.”
Minnesota health officials reported a record daily increase in COVID-19 cases on Saturday, along with another 10 deaths as the number of new hospitalizations climbed.
A federal court decision Friday prevents the delay of Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional District election, meaning the winner will be decided in November. Because a third party candidate died, a state law said the seat should be decided in a February special election.
