
Meet Alex V. Cipolle
Alex V. Cipolle is a senior arts reporter and critic, covering arts and culture for MPR News.
Alex has covered arts and culture for more than a decade, with stories published in The New York Times, Fast Company, Hyperallergic, AFAR, Frommer’s, and BUST. Before joining MPR News, Alex served as arts editor at Eugene Weekly, a contributing reporter at The Register-Guard, and a senior editor at Architect Magazine. She currently contributes arts and culture reporting to The New York Times.
Alex’s work has garnered numerous awards, including awards from the Minnesota Society of Professional Journalists, and multiple SPJ Northwest Excellence Awards, including for her work in Sahan Journal, The New York Times, and Hyperallergic.
Alex studied French and international studies at the University of Minnesota Duluth and spent a year abroad in France at the Paris Center for Critical Studies. She earned her master’s in journalism in 2011 from the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication.
After more than decade of living away from Minnesota in the Pacific Northwest and Southwest France, Alex has returned to her hometown of Minneapolis, living in the Powderhorn Park neighborhood with her two cats, a dog, and her banjo-playing partner.
Some of Alex’s favorite Minnesota spots include the outdoor "Sky Pesher" chamber at the Walker Art Center and the St. Croix River Valley during the annual pottery tour.
