Minnesota's Red Bull brigade will deploy to Kuwait and Iraq in the spring of 2011. Reporter Nikki Tundel went to Camp Ripley, near Little Falls, Minnesota, to catch a day in the life of the 34th Infantry division and learn how they're preparing for their mission.
The Scott County Historical Society honored veterans with a luminary display in Stans Garden in Shakopee, Minn., on Veterans Day, Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010. The display was made up of 100 decorated paper bags, each with a lit votive candle inside. Some honored those currently serving in the military. Others acknowledged veterans who have died.
The Fisher House has been a source of shelter and comfort for families of veterans since it was built adjacent to the Minneapolis VA Medical Center in 1995. The 10-bedroom shelter is one of 55 such houses around the world that serve families of military or VA medical center patients.
In addition to a free room to stay, the Fisher House provides food, laundry and computer access to those visiting their loved ones. Perhaps the most valued benefit is the fellowship shared by the families. A second 20-room Fisher House is currently under construction next door and will open in February.
