Celebrating the spud, in all its forms
Since it began in 1938, Potato Days in Barnesville, Minn., is the annual celebration of the spud. The two-day event, held Aug. 22 and 23 this year, attracted thousands of people, and featured more than a dozen potato-centered competitions -- everything from mashed potato wrestling to a strongman contest.
Biggest earthquake to hit California in 25 years leaves mess in its wake
A strong 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck the heart of California's wine country early Sunday morning, causing injuries, structural damage and power outages. The quake struck about six miles south of Napa and lasted 10 to 20 seconds depending on proximity to the epicenter, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It was the largest to shake the San Francisco Bay Area since the magnitude-6.9 Loma Prieta quake struck in 1989.
