Two children died in an apparent landslide on a fossil hunting school field trip Wednesday at Lilydale Regional Park in St. Paul. Two others were injured when the ground gave way beneath the fourth graders from St. Louis Park.

A monstrous tornado at least a half-mile wide roared through the Oklahoma City suburbs Monday, flattening entire neighborhoods and destroying an elementary school with a direct blow as children and teachers huddled against winds up to 200 mph. The storm laid waste to scores of buildings in Moore, a community of 41,000 people south of the city. Block after block lay in ruins. Homes were crushed into piles of broken wood. Cars and trucks were left crumpled on the roadside.
On the Minnesota River, 'paddling theater' offers entertainment and adventure
On May 18, 2013, performers staged a "paddling theater production" on the Minnesota River as part of Minnesota River History Weekend and Minnesota State Water Trails 50th Anniversary. The event offered stories, songs and characters from local river lore, presented both as live theater and live-action radio drama in an original production called "With the Future on the Line: Paddling Theater from Granite Falls to Yellow Medicine."

One of the nation's premier gravel road events, the race gets its name from Almanzo Wilder, the husband of "Little House of the Prairie" author Laura Ingalls Wilder. Organizers expect 1,300 riders to participate in this year's event.
