Most of us know the words "Gitchi Gumee" from the Longfellow poem about the bold Hiawatha who lived along the "shining Big-Sea-Water," Lake Superior.
A new children's picture book, "Gitchi Gumee," takes readers on a journey across Lake Superior. In the process, they learn about respect and patience, taught by the spirit of the big lake itself, Gitchi Gumee.
"Gitchi Gumee, was written by Michigan author Anne Margaret Lewis, who spoke with MPR's Stephanie Hemphill.
