The bi-partisan Iraq Study Group, co-chaired by former Secretary of State James Baker and former U.S. Rep. Lee Hamilton, released its report on U.S. policy in Iraq this Wednesday, saying there are no easy answers to ending the violence in Iraq, but stressing that changes are essential.
The group says the situation is still salvageable if the mission of U.S. military is modified, if the U.S. adopts a new approach to diplomacy in the region and if the Iraqi government does its part. President Bush promises to respond to the recommendations in a "timely fashion."
