Catching combat stress: Physicians learn the signs

It's been about 60 days since the majority of Minnesota's 2,500 National Gaurd soldiers returned home from Iraq. They were among the longest serving units in the war.

Adjusting to life back home can be difficult, and for some soldiers, the war can result in mental health issues.

A conference Wednesday in the Twin Cities will help health care professionals identify and treat combat stress.

Dr. Melissa Polusny, a psychologist with the Minneapolis VA Medical Center who specializes in treating post-traumatic stress disorder, is one of the organizers. She spoke with MPR's Cathy Wurzer.
