Man sentenced to jail for his role in death of 19-year-old

An Excelsior man was sentenced to probation and 90 days in jail Friday after pleading guilty to felony charges of providing alcohol to a 19-year-old who got drunk and later died.
The incident happened at a house party in Chaska a year ago. Prosecutors said 19-year-old Sean Humphrey left the party without a coat, then fell and hit his head on a curb. Officials said he died of hypothermia and acute intoxication.
Carver County prosecutor Mike Wentzell said his office is being aggressive in prosecuting underage drinking cases.
"The risks are somebody getting hurt, somebody dying, somebody causing a drunk driving crash," said Wentzell. "We want people to know that if you provide alcohol, if something like that happens there's going to be some serious consequences."
Wentzell saids Carver County has had two deaths associated with underage drinking parties in the last 18 months.
