Erik Paulsen has won the GOP endorsement in Minnesota's 3rd Congressional District.
Paulsen is a state representative who led House Republicans when they had a majority. He had no rivals at Saturday's endorsing convention in Bloomington.
He is running against Democrat Ashwin Madia and Independence Party candidate David Dillon for an open seat in the western Twin Cities suburbs. Longtime U.S. Representative Jim Ramstad is retiring after representing the district for nearly 18 years. The seat has been in Republican hands for 50 years, and Democrats are now hopeful they have a chance.
Paulsen worked for Ramstad in Washington and Minnesota before being elected to represent Eden Prairie in the Minnesota House in 1994. He served as House Majority Leader from 2002 to 2006.
