Barbara Bachman — Barbara Bachman has been upgraded to serious but stable condition after undergoing emergency surgery this weekend.

The condition of Lakeville resident Barbara Bachman has been upgraded from critical to stable condition after undergoing emergency surgery this weekend, said a spokesman for the U.S. Olympic Committee.

Bachman was stabbed in Beijing Saturday as she was visiting tourist sites near the Olympics with her husband, Todd Bachman, the CEO of Bachman's garden center.

Todd Bachman was killed in the attack. Barbara Bachman suffered multiple stab wounds and underwent eight hours of emergency surgery. The attack also seriously injured the family's tour guide.

Police are still investigating the stabbing, which they say was an isolated incident.

The Bachmans are the parents of 2004 volleyball Olympian Elisabeth Bachman. She is married to U.S. men's volleyball coach Hugh McCutcheon, who is in Beijing for the Olympics.

Additional family members flew to Beijing over the weekend to be with Barbara. A spokesperson for Bachman's garden center says the stores will display special flowers and commemorative posters this week in the memory of Todd Bachman.

There is no word yet on funeral arrangements.
