The Minnesota Twins are considering the idea of hosting outdoor concerts when Target Field opens in downtown Minneapolis in 2010.
The team says it would consider holding at least one concert each summer.
Twins spokesman, Kevin Smith, said the team is sending two representatives to a Madonna concert at Petco Park in San Diego next month.
"To take a look at how the ballpark accommodates and executes and then cleans up after. An outdoor concert of that magnitude, of course, Madonna's outdoor concerts are huge with regard to the staging and the lighting," Smith said.
Smith said outdoor concerts are the enemy of greenskeepers, because the field takes such a beating. The grass for Target Field is currently being grown on a Colorado sod farm.
Smith said hosting an annual outdoor performance is just one of many ideas the team is considering for Target Field.
