Public education in Minnesota takes up the largest portion of the state's general fund. About 40 percent of the state's budget goes to Preschool and K-through-12 spending. So school districts around the state may be thinking their budgets could get cut first and most deeply.
Minnesota Public Radio News spoke with several school superintendents around the state and they're all concerned for the future of their districts.
To explain why, Tom Crann talked to Gary Amoroso, superintendent for the Lakeville Area Public Schools in the south metro suburbs. About 80 percent of his district's budget is funded by the state.
