Schools in more than 100 Minnesota cities are closed or starting school late after a strong winter storm dumped up to 14 inches of snow in parts of the area.
Of that number, schools in 20 communities - including Bemidji and Fergus Falls - canceled classes Monday. Most are in northwestern Minnesota.
School officials are concerned about wind chills for students waiting at bus stops.
At 6 a.m., the wind chill was 41 below zero in Morris and 40 below in Alexandria and Glenwood. Wind chills are expected to remain near 40 below zero through Monday for west-central and south-central Minnesota.

The National Weather Service says Hewitt, in west-central Minnesota, received 14 inches of snow. Proctor, in northeastern Minnesota, got 11 inches, Little Falls and Donnelly got 8.5 inches, and Brainerd received 8 inches.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation says Interstate-94 From Moorhead to Alexandria and Highway 10 from Moorhead to Detroit Lakes will remain closed until 10:00 a.m.
U.S. Highway 2 between East Grand Forks and Crookston also remains closed.
