(AP) - The Minnesota Health Department is reporting a second death connected to the national salmonella outbreak.
Health officials say a man in his 70s has died. They say the man had several underlying health conditions, making it difficult to say whether the salmonella poisoning was directly responsible.
The health officials also raised the number of salmonella cases in the state to 33, up from 30. They say 12 of those cases were residents of long-term care facilities, including the two people who died.
Thirteen of the victims were hospitalized.
Health officials have also confirmed that two deaths in Virginia are associated with the national outbreak that has sickened more than 400 people in 43 states.
