The Republican Jewish Coalition announced today that it has hired Republican Senator Norm Coleman as a consultant. Coleman is waging a court challenge to the results of the Senate recount which gave DFLer Al Franken the lead.
Leaders of the Republican Jewish Coalition issued a statement saying Coleman will assist the organization with its future planning. Coleman spoke briefly with reporters following remarks to the annual Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life March for Life at the state Capitol.
Coleman indicated he took the RJC job because he needs the money.
"I'm not part of the millionaires club Mr. Franken is," Coleman said. "A lot of Senators are, I'm not, so I still have to pay a mortgage, got two kids in college, my wife does eat on occasion so I will have to do some work and earn a living during the propensity of this proceeding."
The Republican Jewish Coalition says Coleman will not lobby on its behalf but that he will travel around the country to handle speaking engagements for the coalition. The group is not disclosing how much Coleman will be paid.
