The new Interstate 35W bridge over the Mississippi River has been named a project of the year by the American Public Works Association.
The association awards are presented annually to recognize excellence in public works projects. This year the group selected 19 projects in five different categories.
The 35W bridge received the award in the Disaster or Emergency Construction/Repair category for projects that cost more than $75 million. The Public Works Association singles out its progressive design, extensive use of new technology and eco-friendly materials.
Representatives of the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the design company and contractors that worked on the bridge will accept the award at a September exposition in Columbus, Ohio.
