Former state auditor Pat Anderson is joining a crowd of Republicans running for governor.
Anderson says she has filed the paperwork required to start a campaign.
She also served as commissioner of the Department of Employee Relations and helped merge the agency into the Minnesota Management and Budget Department, eliminating her own job.
Anderson says the state faces a long-term structural deficit that can't be fixed through accounting shifts or the unilateral budget cuts Gov. Tim Pawlenty is making. She says she will focus on dramatically overhauling government.
Anderson also served as mayor of Eagan and ran a business.
Pawlenty's decision not to seek a third term has opened the field for Republicans. Democrats are also lining up to seek the state's highest office.
