A former member of the defunct Metro Gang Strike Force has filed a whistleblower lawsuit against the city of Minneapolis.
Sgt. Kelly O'Rourke alleges he was removed from the task force in 2007 after he told his supervisor that some evidence wasn't being handled professionally and that some procedures weren't being properly followed.
The Metro Gang Task Force was disbanded this year after allegations surfaced of missing cash and seized property. A special review panel last week said it found "appalling and outrageous" misconduct within the unit.
A Minneapolis Police spokesman, Sgt. Jesse Garcia, says the department can't comment on the allegations because of the ongoing litigation.
