University of Minnesota Regents will get an update on the school's plan to deal with the H1N1 strain of flu as their two-day board meeting begins Thursday.
University of Minnesota officials know that H1N1 has arrived on campus. 50 to 60 probable cases have been reported, but U officials are certain there are many more unreported cases among students. Health workers on campus expect a "rapid spike" in cases in coming weeks.
The U's plan is fairly simple; students with flu-like symptoms should go home. If they can't leave campus, they should stay isolated.
Surgical masks are available for students with the flu who need to leave residence halls. The U is also considering relaxing class attendance requirements if a major flu breakout occurs.
The U's board of regents will get an update on the H1N1 plan today. There will also be a panel discussion on H1N1 at the Coffman Memorial Union Theater this morning.
