The St. Paul School District plans to narrow its list of candidates for superintendent to three by the end of next week.
The search firm HYA, which is charged with recruiting candidates, says more than 40 people have applied to be St. Paul's next superintendent.
On Wednesday, Nov. 11, the district will name six semi-finalists for the job. Those six will be interviewed later next week during meetings that are open to the public, but only board members will interact with the candidates.
Next Saturday, the board will pare that list to no more than three finalists. Each finalist will then take part in public meetings the following week that include a question-and-answer period with the public.

The school board expects to pick its sole candidate for the job the week of Thanksgiving.
They're choosing a permanent replacement for Meria Carstarphen, who left St. Paul this year to head the Austin, Texas district. Suzanne Kelly is currently interim superintendent - she is not applying for the permanent job.
