Rescue crews spent the weekend searching for a plane that has been missing in Minnesota since Friday.

The Civil Air Patrol's Minnesota Wing said Sunday that the yellow and black PA-28 Piper Cherokee left the Airlake Airport near Lakeville on Friday and never made it to its destination in Hallock, in northern Minnesota.

Family members say Andrew Lindberg of Farmington was the only person on board. He planned to meet his father to go hunting.

The last communication from him was around 6:30 p.m. Friday, when he sent a text message saying he was near Staples.

KARE-TV reports that by sunset Sunday, there was still no sign of the aircraft.

The Civil Air Patrol searched from the air between Wadena and Hallock, while friends and family members searched on the ground.

The Civil Air Patrol is a volunteer group that serves as an auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force.
