Minnesota House Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher has picked up her third union endorsement for her gubernatorial campaign.
AFSCME Council 65, which represents public employees in Greater Minnesota, said it's backing Kelliher over the nine other Democrats in the race.
AFSCME Council 65 political director Sarah Lewerenz said the 13,000-member union thinks Kelliher is committed to improving health care and education and delivering on job creation.
"We represent people who daily who worry about those very real things. Those are not abstract issues to them," Lewerenz said. "So we wanted to pick a candidate who cared about and could deliver on them."
AFSCME Council 65 is much smaller than 43,000-member AFSCME Council 5, which is backing former U.S. Senator Mark Dayton for governor. Thursday, the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 49 announced it was backing Kelliher.
The Minnesota Association of Professional Employees is also backing Kelliher for governor.
