Minn. DNR talks trash about fish house litter

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is talking trash about anglers who leave the ice littered.

People who leave behind bottles, cans, cigarette butts, or worse can be fined up to $300 and be charged for the cleanup costs.

Capt. Ken Soring of Grand Rapids says there aren't enough conservation officers to thoroughly enforce the litter laws. And he says the large number of fish houses on the lakes this time of year, as well as the wind, make it hard to tell who left the garbage behind.

Conservation officers on Lake Mille Lacs are hanging blaze orange notices on fish houses asking people to pack out their trash. The tags cite the law and the potential penalties for violators.
