More court filings will shed light on a case that has jeopardized $2.7 billion in budget cuts made by Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty.
Lawyers for a group of affected residents were due Tuesday to submit written arguments to the state Supreme Court. They won an earlier round in the dispute when a judge ordered Pawlenty to restore money to a nutrition program for the poor.
Pawlenty wants the high court to overturn the lower court decision that said he overstepped his authority when he used his executive powers. While that ruling only dealt with the $5.3 million program, it threw in doubt a much-broader list of cuts Pawlenty made last year.
The Supreme Court has put the case on the fast track, with oral arguments set for March 15.
