Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty is putting his weight behind Duluth's pursuit of a superfast broadband network being offered by Google.
Pawlenty has declared Friday Google Twin Ports Day.
It's the deadline for cities to apply for a Google project to bring ultra-high speed broadband networks to a handful of communities in the United States.
Duluth is among hundreds of cities vying for the broadband, which promises to be more than 100 times faster than Internet connections available to most Americans.
Pawlenty's proclamation says fast broadband would promote economic growth in Duluth.
The proclamation follows an aggressive campaign waged by volunteers in Duluth to grab Google's attention.
