The Metropolitan Mosquito Control District in St. Paul plans to get an early jump on its annual war against the pesky bugs.
MMCD is beginning its helicopter treatment Friday, two weeks earlier than usual.
Officials say the move was necessary because the unusually warm spring weather favored mosquito growth. They say the treatment is intended to prevent billions of the critters from getting an early start this summer.
MMCD says the materials to be spread specifically target mosquito larvae and pose no risk to human or animal health.
