Minn. budget talks set after Pawlenty loses appeal

Gov. Tim Pawlenty is sitting down with top lawmakers a day after the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled against him in a case over budget cuts.

Thursday's meeting in the governor's office is focused on the fallout of the court ruling and the budget.

Lawmakers and the governor had erased about a third of an almost $1 billion deficit when the court threw another $2.7 billion worth of spending cuts and payment delays into doubt.

Pawlenty made those cuts last year without legislative consent, and the court found he overreached his authority.

State leaders have just 11 days before the Legislature's constitutional adjournment deadline.
