Funeral services will be held Monday for the granddaughter of the late Vice President Hubert Humphrey.
Victoria Solomonson died last Thursday from Alzheimer's disease, but she was perhaps best known as a symbol of the disabilities rights movement.
Solomonson was born on election night in 1960. After being diagnosed with Down syndrome, doctors suggested she be institutionalized. But her parents, Bruce and Nancy Solomonson, refused to do it. Instead, they raised her at home with help from her grandparents.
As senator and then-vice president, her grandfather Hubert Humphrey fought for equal treatment for people with disabilities and advocated for special needs programs.
Solomonson was 49.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Christ Presbyterian Church in Edina.
