Longtime award-winning WCCO-TV news anchor Don Shelby officially announced his retirement today. Shelby, who has worked at the station for more than 30 years, will sign off on Nov. 22.

"I consider myself the luckiest man alive," said Shelby in a statement from the station. "Fate brought me to a community that accepted me, my family, my professional faults and failures and celebrated any successes I've enjoyed. I have chosen to stay in Minnesota over all these years because I owe her and her people a debt I can never repay, no matter how hard I have tried."

Shelby was hired at WCCO-TV in 1978, to co-anchor the weekend news with Pat Miles. Not long after, he was named main anchor at 5, 6 and 10 p.m.

His successor on the 10 p.m. newscast will be Frank Vascellaro, who already anchors the station's 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. newscasts with his wife, Amelia Santaniello.

Another longtime Twin Cities television news anchor, KMSP's Robyne Robinson, announced Tuesday that she is resigning later this month to focus on her jewelry design career.
