U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann's campaign says hackers placed malicious code on its website, causing some visitors to download viruses inadvertently.
Bachmann's campaign said Thursday web developers found the offending code and removed it from the Bachmann for Congress website.
Campaign manager Gina Countryman says there's no reason to believe any data was stolen, and that contributors' information isn't at risk because it isn't housed on the website.
The campaign says the virus may have affected visitors using Internet Explorer and Google Chrome browsers. It advises supporters to run a basic antivirus program.
Bachmann is an outspoken anti-tax Republican. She is seeking a third term in Minnesota's 6th District, which takes in northern Twin Cities suburbs and the St. Cloud area.
