Head south from the Twin Cities on Highway 61 for about an hour, and you will spot the spire of a water tower poking through the trees.
The tower, a historic landmark, is the crown jewel of the grounds at the Anderson Center, a retreat for artists outside downtown Red Wing. Instead of water, however, this tower holds art.
Take the 76 spiraling steps up to the top of the tower and, after catching your breath, you will be greeted with a stunning views of the valley below.
Poet/violinist/singer Anna George Meek spent two weeks as an artist in residence at the Anderson Center and used the tower as a practice space and as inspiration.
Listen to her play violin in the tower and read a poem inspired by her residency.
