U.S. Rep. Tim Walz, D-Minn., says the resignation of Gen. Stanley McChrystal was the "soldierly thing" to do.
Walz is a 24-year military veteran and said on MPR's Midday program that as a former soldier, he was baffled by McChrystal's candid criticisms about President Obama and others in the chain of command in a Rolling Stone magazine article.
"I think also at that level comes the responsibility that there's one boss and everyone knows who that is and you can have disagreements, absolutely, and I would have hoped he had the ability to vent those, but not in this manner," Walz told MPR's Gary Eichten.
Walz said he still respects the service McChrystal has given to the country, but ultimately, it comes down to keeping the focus on winning the war effort in Afghanistan.
